Born in Barranquilla, Colombia | 10+ years teaching experience | 5,000+ students
Growing up in Colombia's Caribbean coast—the birthplace of cumbia and vallenato—Mauricio learned to dance before he could walk. His training includes continuous workshops with Colombia's most renowned Salsa Caleña masters and international Latin dance legends. As a native Spanish speaker who embodies the sabor caribeño (Caribbean flavor), he doesn't just teach steps—he shares the stories, traditions, and cultural soul behind every movement.

Born in Colombia, Latin rhythm is in my DNA. But having lived in United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil, and Hong Kong, I learned that "flavor" is universal. With an MBA from LUISS Business School in Rome and a career as a Chief of Staff, I combine the passion of a Latina with the structure of a professional education.

Why I Teach: Decoding the Dance I specialize in making Latin dance accessible to everyone. My experience coordinating executive programs taught me how adults learn best. I break down the authentic moves of our pro instructors into logical, easy-to-follow steps—ensuring nothing gets lost in translation.

Raised in Latin America's vibrant dance culture, Derian brings the authentic street-style movements from barrios where salsa and bachata were born. His training spans from traditional Cuban son to modern bachata sensual, always maintaining the cultural roots that make Latin dance unique. As a native Spanish speaker, he understands the intrinsic connection between Latin music's lyrics, rhythms, and movements—teaching you not just to move, but to interpret the music like a true Latino.

I recently tried Zero to Dance Salsa course and from the very first lesson, the instructors break down the steps into manageable and easy to follow moves that have you dancing within minutes.
